Traveller’s Guide to The Tower of London

The Tower of London is England’s best and most popular attraction. From its towers to its ravens to the Crown Jewels, the Tower of London is rich in history and tradition. Tickets to the tower range from AUD$30.84 for an individual adult to AUD$85.66 for a family of 2 adults and up to 6 children, tours are incredible affordable. After your tour, be sure to take a walk around the city and take in all that London holidays have to offer.

William the Conqueror began to build the stone tower in the early 1080s. Over the years, different monarchs added their own touches to the building. In its beginning stages, the tower was intended as a fortress-stronghold, not a palace or a prison. The fortress that we know today wasn’t started until the mid-1300s by Richard the Lionheart. Successive monarchs expanded on his additions, made improvements or even added some of their own. What was once a simple tower has turned into several towers, residential areas and out-buildings.

While at the Tower of London, visit the Tower Green where Anne Boleyn lost her head. Also executed on this spot were Catherine Howard, Lady Jane Grey and Margaret Pole. The resident Ravens are always in attendance on the grounds and are a sight to behold (but please don’t feed them). See if you can locate all seven! No one should leave the Tower of London without seeing the Crown Jewels. The collection is home to 23,578 jewels including the Imperial State Crown.
